THE PAST...........born and raised in brownsville, brooklyn shyste life wasnt an easy one. raised by her grandparent since the age of 2, because of her mothers mental problems. life started complicated for the young shyste. her grandparents made it a point for her to listen to soul and jazz as she was growin up. singing and dancing since the age of 3. shyste was drawn to music of all genres. being a tomboy made it easy for her to associate with the boys and fit in with the rappers from her hood. by the age of 12 , she realized she had gift to become a lyrisis and music was part of her soul........ THE MUSIC........from the age of 13 shyste knew being a mc is what she wanted to do. by the age of 15 she had performed in 100's of talent shows. battling anyone she could get her hands on, she was very aggressive in her own right. introduced to smooth da hustler and trigger the gambler, they took under their and helped mold her. they werent very impressed, but knew she had the potential to be great. shyste was in the studio every chance she could grab to mold her craft. d.r period, d.v. alias khyrst, retsam, and dj nu took the time help her with anything she needed. shyste got her true battle experience with papoose. he took her with him to battle, to let get an understanding of real street battles.he would let get battle first then he would finish them off. shyste was also in a group called "scared 4 life" with fabolous, paul cain, herion, king james, and mr. piris. learning the word play and flossy part of being a mc. battling a group of mc, shyste met killer priest, who became a mentor. meeting shyste downtown brooklyn regularly to battle groups of mcs, mostly men. killer made it a focus for shyste to be herself and not fall in to the box of most female mcs. not to mention to shows and opening shows all over the states. these people help create the lyrisis you see now......... THE MOVEMENT........feeling that all female mcs are put in the box, of sex sells. shyste trys to level the playing field, by being lyrical and emotional. telling stories of real life moments about rape, molestion, guns, drugs, and family. she digs deep into herself and opens up to her fans. she talks about the emotions closest to her heart, coming to grip with who she is inside. having gone through life and deathh issues with being stabbed 15 times and shot, shyste comes clean about things most people would never talk about. a mc she is and a poet in her own right.
