About shadowschools
I started rapping about 1992.I moved form this group home I stayed in for 3 years.I moved to live with my aunt for about a year, all of a sudden I had discovered that I could rap.I think I picked it up from one of the brothers I lived with in the group home. I use to beatbox and he would flow while we were doing our dinner dishes. For me at the time that was the golden years of hiphop before rap. That time there were no million dollar artist but run dmc. I realy remember people doing it for the art. Rap was a culture then, now it is a industrie like fast food. While living with my aunt it was a transitional time for me. I moved to my familys house after living in foster care and group homes. I needed somthing that could keep me busy.So I started freestyling. my aunt is a very church going woman even to this day. She use to say why are you going around the house making noises, I’d say to her i’m rapping not talking. She said that she was going to throw away all of my hiphop albums. then I started writting songs. I have to admit they weren’t that good. That same year at school one of the teachers asked if some of the students were interested in doing a cable access t.v. show. I was like yea this sounded like a good platform for doing some rhymes. Then me and some other students wrote a show called starting out. The show was about this guy who was trying to get a record deal. Thinking back this show could have takin off but the theme was to hard to write a second part. The show aired for about a month and was well written. I could say I had my fifteen minutes off fame. From that point I would freestlye in the school talent shows and won almost all of them intill I graduated. In college I started working at this night club called the kaffa house were I meet some of the most talented m.c., producers, poets and gaffiti artist ever. This had to be like a hiphop renassance. If you was any type of artist in d.c you was there. The kaffa House was the place to be. some of the most skilled m.c.s from this day that are from d.c got started there.The freestyle union is the name of a group that has the largest members in the area I preformed with them and a lot of the members from that club. I never got signed or put out a album. I started a group and made a few demos but never put anything on wax. to put it plain I stayed in the shadows. some people didn’t know I could make beats or could ryhme. Most people just thought that I was poet or some one who just liked hiphop. I admit for about a year or so I just watched and didn’t rhyme intill we came out of the club and got into a cypher. My studio got robbed by one of the members in my group so making beats was put on a hold. One of my best friends died someone who belived in me a whole lot. I graduated from the same class as him he told me” never stop flowing you got what it takes to be a mc”. I never forgot that to this day. He wanted me to be by his side as he was dying I couldn’t do it, to watch someone you love about fade away is one of the hardest things. so I went into a deep depression then left d.c. to live on the west coast. I moved to seattle and that was a culture shock. the same thing I seen on the west coast was the the same thing I had seen in dc just west coast style. The mc spot was called the rock candy. To make a long story short. Never give up on you dreams talents hopes.
